David Bloom is Clarence James Gamble Professor of Economics and Demography at the Harvard School of Public Health and chair of the Department of Global Health and Population. He has also taught at Carnegie Mellon University and at Columbia University, where he served as chair of the Department of Economics. Professor Bloom holds a doctorate in economics and demography from Princeton University and has worked extensively in the areas of development, health, labor economics, education, and demography. He has published more than 250 articles, book chapters, and books. His current research focuses on the theoretical and empirical links among health, demography, and economic growth, and on the value of vaccination.
