Dr. Robert W. Blum is William H. Gates Sr. professor, and chair, Department of Population, Family, and Reproductive Health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and director, Johns Hopkins Urban Health Institute. He has authored nearly 250 journal articles, book chapters, and special reports, and has served as editor as well.

Dr. Blum is a member of the National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine. He is also a consultant to the World Bank, the United Nations Population Fund, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization. He has received multiple awards: the Society for Adolescent Medicine's Outstanding Achievement Award, the American Public Health Association's Herbert Needleman Award "for scientific achievement and courageous advocacy" on behalf of children and youth, and in 2010, the Maternal and Child Health Bureau's Vince Hutchins Award.

He is trained as a pediatrician and holds an M.D. and a Ph.D. in health policy.
